Who is Ms. Reeve?
I found myself asking this question a lot over the past nine months and I began to notice that when I wasn't asking myself this, someone else was - be it a student, fellow teacher candidate, professor, or associate teacher. This small question was being bounced and rolled around all over the place, and I was amazed at how a few simple words can create such a large impact if you allow them to. What did I learn from this small question? I have learned during this time that as an educator it is very important to take the time to reflect on who we really are, where we have come from, where we are now and where we want to get to, and most importantly what are the things that have helped us develop into that person we identify as in this very moment. That we take questions such as these and find a way to answer them the best that we can without giving much thought. I have learned that we as teachers wear many hats on any given day and if we cannot dig deep to understand who we really are and what we have to offer how can we ever expect our students to do so? Self reflection is positive and essential for growth and development at any age. So to answer the question difficult question of "who is Ms. Reeve?" I am someone who values deep self reflection and understanding. I am someone who recognizes that as a person I am constantly changing and growing, and that every moment has an impact, big or small, on who I will be within the next week, month, or year. I am an educator but also a learner; and I cherish what lessons I can take away from the many adventures that I have been fortunate enough to have up to date in my life, and look forward to the ones I will have in the future. I am a patient individual who brings the very best that I have on any day of the week. I hold the bar high for myself and expect no less from those around me, and will do anything I can to help them get to their personal goals. I am stubborn when it comes to giving up on anything I believe can be accomplished, but flexible on the many approaches that can be used to get there. I have a growing love for the environment that has matured and aged as I have myself matured and aged, and I try to find ways to instill a similar passion in those around me for the things that they have an interest in. "Who is Ms. Reeve?" really is a question with an ever growing and changing answer. I can tell you for sure that I couldn't be more excited to find out who Ms. Reeve can be in the years to come within her very own classroom. |
Being taught how to speak Spanish at a small outdoor school on a Batey in the Dominican Republic. A very powerful and eye-opening experience.
